Ubisoft CEO claims work is underway on Assassin’s Creed remakes

Ubisoft is working on remakes of older games in the Assassin’s Creed series. One in particular is probably Black Flag. The old Assassin’s Creed games are gearing up for modern reimaginings, likely with improved graphics and other enhancements for newer consoles and more powerful PCs. Yves Guimault, Ubisoft’s CEO, said in an interview on the company’s website that Assassin’s Creed remakes are in development. When asked about the future of the franchise, Guimault said the remakes would allow the company to revisit and modernize the worlds it has created, noting that “some of the worlds in older Assassin’s Creed games are still extremely rich.”

Guimault also noted that Ubisoft’s goal is to release Assassin’s Creed games more regularly, “but not so that it’s the same experience every year.” The next game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Hexe, set during the witch trials in the Holy Roman Empire, will be “a completely different game compared to Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” he said. Shadows, set in Japan at the end of the Sengoku era, features real-life events and historical figures from the period, including feudal lord Oda Nobunaga. The game will be available globally starting Nov. 15.

The game will be available worldwide.

Although Guimault didn’t name the specific games Ubisoft is remaking, Kotaku previously reported that the company is working on a new version of Black Flag. The adventure game, which focuses on 18th-century pirates, was released in 2013 and has become one of the most beloved in the series. Ubisoft is also expected to launch a new platform called «Animus hub», which will allow players to launch and play games in the franchise on the same day as the release of Shadows. Animus hub, formerly known as Infinity, will probably also be a store, which explains Ubisoft’s work on new AC releases that could be sold through that platform.
