The Roblox economy is going global

Roblox has updated its payment system to take regional prices into account, which means it will automatically adjust the price of in-game items based on the economic situation in the buyer’s country. This innovation will allow community members to better adapt to local conditions and increase their revenues.
Previously, users from countries like Vietnam paid the same amount as those in the U.S., making the game less accessible to people with limited financial means. Now, with the introduction of regional pricing, user activity on Roblox’s international marketplace is expected to increase.

Game creators must register to use the tool. The software automatically determines and periodically updates optimal prices for goods in response to changes in the global economy. Companies such as Nintendo are already using the same practice, and users who have opened accounts in different regions can attest to this.

For reference, the creators of Roblox make money from selling the in-game currency Robux, which allows you to purchase items that grant privileges and special abilities. Currently, regional pricing doesn’t apply to avatar items, but that’s expected to change later this year.

The initiative is tied to the introduction of a price optimization feature on the platform that helps creators set the best prices for their items. Roblox reports that the feature has already boosted rights holders’ revenue by about four percent, mostly by lowering prices and increasing sales volume.
