Apple is working on a new iMac with an M3 chip

Apple iMac is quite popular because it offers an «all-in-one» system for those who work at a desk and don’t need the high performance of a Mac Pro. However, there is only one model currently available, and it is already outdated — it’s the 24-inch 2021 iMac, powered by the original M1 processor.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that the Apple giant is working on a more powerful version that will use Apple’s upcoming M3 chip (3nm, not 5nm as in the current M1 and M2). However, the size of this version will remain the same.

According to Gurman, Cupertino is also developing a larger 32-inch iMac. It will be a high-end offering similar to the Apple Pro Display XDR with a 32-inch IPS LCD panel, 6K (16:9) resolution and 10-bit colors. By comparison, the current 24-inch iMac has a 24-inch 4.5K (16:9) display, again with 10-bit colors.

The 32-inch iMac won’t be available for sale anytime soon, however, as the development process has just begun. Current projections are that it will be available in late 2024 or even 2025. The 24-inch M3 is due out early next year.
