Apple unveiled a new 24-inch iMac with M4 chip and nanoglass

No presentation, but on October 28, Apple announced the release of an updated 24-inch iMac, which now features a more powerful M4 chip that boosts the device’s performance. The update was launched as part of a week of new Mac announcements, and while the iMac’s design remains the same, the improvements in specs are impressive.

Performance and configurations of the iMac 2024
The new iMac is now powered by the M4 chip, replacing the M3 from the previous version. Apple claims the M4 has the world’s fastest CPU core and delivers 1.7 times the performance of an iMac with the M1 chip. The iMac also takes a step forward in graphics, with 2.1 times the GPU power of the M1, which is especially noticeable in gaming and photo editing.

iMac with M4 comes in two versions: a base version with an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, and a version with a 10-core CPU and GPU. RAM in the base configuration is increased from the previous 8GB to 16GB, expandable up to 32GB. Storage starts at 256GB, but you can opt for configurations up to 2TB.

Nanotexture screen and FaceTime HD camera
The updated iMac again features a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display with a resolution of 4480 by 2520 pixels, 500 nits of brightness, support for wide color gamut (P3) and True Tone. Apple has added a nano-textured coating option that minimizes reflections and improves image clarity. At the top of the screen is a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, which, as before, is supported by an advanced image processor and uses computational video to enhance the quality of the shot.
The iMac 2024’s sound and microphones

A six-way speaker system with high-fidelity drivers and noise-canceling woofers, as well as Spatial Audio support for Dolby Atmos content, is responsible for sound reproduction. Audio recording is performed by a three-microphone array of studio-quality microphones with high signal-to-noise ratio and directional beamforming for excellent sound quality.
Ports and connections of the iMac 2024

The rear panel of the iMac has two Thunderbolt ports, expandable to four, that support DisplayPort output to a second monitor. There’s a headphone jack (3.5mm) on the side panel. Network connectivity is available via Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E, and wired Gigabit Ethernet is also available, built into the power supply so it doesn’t compromise the iMac’s minimalist appearance.
Availability and price of the iMac 2024
The new 24-inch iMac with the M4 chip starts at $1,299. It’s available for pre-order now, and shipments will begin on November 8.
