Xiaomi has unveiled the Mijia M40S ultra-thin robot vacuum cleaner

Xiaomi continues to develop its lineup of smart home appliances and has officially unveiled the new Mijia M40S robot vacuum cleaner in China. The novelty has a compact body, advanced navigation technology and impressive suction power. Pre-order is already available on JD.com: the basic version with a water tank will cost 2999 yuan ($414), while the fully automatic model with water management system will cost 3699 yuan ($511). Sales start May 13.

Compact body and powerful stuffing

The main feature of the Mijia M40S is the new retractable LiDAR navigation system, which lowers when approaching low-clearance furniture. This makes the robot thinner so it can get under beds, sofas and other hard-to-reach places – it’s only 8.8 centimeters tall. Inside is a powerful suction system with a maximum force of up to 23,000 Pa – the most powerful vacuum cleaner in Xiaomi’s lineup to date.

The robot features a dual brush that resists hair tangling, as well as retractable side brushes and mops that automatically extend for a more thorough clean along baseboards and in corners.

Smart navigation and automatic base

Navigation is powered by three lasers – stereo-LiDAR and lateral distance sensors. This allows the vacuum cleaner to build a 3D map of the room in real time, accurately avoid obstacles and adjust the route without collisions.

The advanced version of the M40S comes with a compact base that supports automatic water supply and drain, detergent addition and mop cleaning with hot water up to 80°C. It also features a 2-hour hot air drying function and a dual scrubber system for cleaning both the mop and the base.

Ecosystem integration and other features

The vacuum cleaner supports up to 75 days of automatic debris removal, runs on a 5,200mAh battery, and is controlled via the Mi Home app or Xiao Ai voice assistant. It supports HyperOS Connect – integration with other smart home devices from Xiaomi.

The vacuum cleaner weighs 3.75 kg and has a diameter of 350 mm. The standard base measures 470 x 360 x 572mm, while the built-in version with auto-drain measures 450 x 420 x 280mm and is suitable for installation in furniture.

New devices from Xiaomi

Besides the vacuum cleaner, the company also unveiled the Wireless Mouse Lite 3 with 2.4GHz support, 1000 DPI sensor and weighing only 45g, as well as a new model of the Mijia Wireless Floor Scrubber 4 Max upright vacuum cleaner with a unique edge cleaning system and the same suction power of 23,000Pa.
