Samsung has launched the world’s first 500Hz OLED gaming monitor

Samsung has launched sales in the US of the Odyssey OLED G6 gaming OLED monitor, the world’s first model with a 500Hz refresh rate. At the same time, the company introduced 37-inch and 40-inch variants of the Odyssey G7 in the country.

The Odyssey OLED G6, announced earlier this year and available in other countries for three months, costs $1,000 in the U.S.. The 37-inch version of the Odyssey OLED G7 is priced at $900, and the 40-inch version is priced at $1,200. All of the new products are available now on Samsung USA’s website.

Odyssey OLED G6: QD-OLED, HDR and pixel burn-in protection

Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SF or G600S) features a 27-inch QD-OLED panel with QHD (2,560 × 1,440) resolution, 0.03ms response time, 500Hz variable frequency and HDR support. The monitor is compatible with AMD FreeSync Premium Plus and Nvidia G-Sync, HDR10+ Gaming and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certified, offers peak brightness up to 1,000 nits (typical is 300 nits), and has UL Glare Free coating to reduce glare.

Samsung OLED Safeguard+ technology, including liquid cooling, automatic brightness control, logo and taskbar detection, and screensaver mode, is implemented to protect against pixel burn-in. A three-year warranty is provided. The monitor has Pantone validation for accurate color reproduction, RGB backlighting, and an adjustable stand (height, tilt, swivel, tilt, and orientation) compatible with VESA 100×100 mount.

The port selection includes two HDMI 2.1, one DisplayPort 1.4, a 3.5mm audio output, one USB 3.2 Type-B (input) and two USB 3.2 Type-A (output). Gaming features include Black Equalizer, Eye Saver Mode, Flicker Free, Super Arena Gaming UX and Virtual Aim Point.

Odyssey G7: 37 and 40 inches with curved VA panels

The 37-inch version of the Odyssey G7 features a curved VA panel with 4K resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, 165Hz and 1000R curvature. The 40-inch model has a panel with 21:9 aspect ratio, 1000R curvature and 180Hz. Both new products feature 3,000:1 contrast ratio, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, HDR10+ Gaming and VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification, as well as Black Equalizer, Core Sync, Off Timer Plus, Super Arena Gaming UX and Virtual Aim Point gaming features.

Amazon’s new panel has a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, HDR10+ Gaming and VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification.

It comes with two HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, 3.5mm audio output, USB 3.2 Type-B (input) and two USB 3.2 Type-A (output), and adjustable stands with height, tilt and swivel capabilities.

David Phelps, head of Samsung Electronics America’s display division, noted:
