Janitorial robots for Tesla’s unmanned cabs

A major development at Tesla’s recent quarterly conference call: the company announced that it will begin operating unmanned cabs in Austin, Texas, in June 2025. This decision is due to Austin becoming Tesla’s new headquarters, this allows the company to test its technology close to the office.

.

Ahead of the launch, a video with the intriguing title “This Robot Sucks” was published on the company’s corporate YouTube channel. It shows how Tesla plans to automate cleaning in its drones. Robots with interchangeable attachments will be able to not only vacuum, but also gently retrieve forgotten items from the interior.
The interchangeable attachments will allow the robots to take care of the car’s display and panels, as well as keep the inside clean. This will greatly simplify taxi fleet maintenance, eliminating the need for live staff. Tesla is also considering introducing automatic car washes for its vehicles, which will further simplify the operation of unmanned cabs.

Such robots are planned to be installed at charging stations, providing simultaneous charging and cleaning of cabs without human intervention. CyberCab cab service is expected to launch in California and Texas in 2025.
