Legendary Camaro is being turned into a crossover – fans in shock

Chevrolet plans to revive the Camaro in a new format. According to CarScoops, the iconic model, which ended production in 2023, will return in 2026 no longer as a classic maslcar, but as an electric crossover. Thus, the Ford Mustang Mach-E may have a direct competitor.
From maslcar to electric crossover
Insiders claim the new Camaro will be built on the state-of-the-art Ultium architecture. Other General Motors electric vehicles are already built on this platform, including the Chevrolet Blazer EV. It’s expected to use 85 and 102 kW⋅h batteries – the same as the Blazer EV.
The base version will get rear-wheel drive and an engine with about 365 horsepower. For buyers who prefer all-wheel drive, a version with about 300 horsepower and more torque will be offered.

Powerful versions of the SS and ZL1
Brand fans are particularly interested in the Camaro SS. Rumor has it that this version will inherit the powertrain from the Blazer EV SS, which translates to 615 hp
But the main expectations are for the Camaro ZL1. The top-end variant could get a three-motor scheme from the GMC Hummer EV, providing up to 1,000 hp of power.
Why a crossover and not a sedan
The industry has previously discussed Chevrolet’s plans to release a sport sedan that could combine the Camaro and Malibu heritage and compete with the Dodge Charger. However, the company’s strategy has shifted toward electrified crossovers.
