Nothing will release an update to Android 16 (Nothing OS 4.0) by the end of September

Nothing has confirmed that its update to Android 16, coming out as Nothing OS 4.0, will be available by the end of September.
Google released Android 16 earlier than usual this year, which has disrupted the usual schedule a bit — it’s now hard to predict exactly when manufacturers will start rolling out their versions of the update. While Nothing has not previously been known for its rapid support of new Android versions, the company has now said it will release an update to Android 16 in the third quarter, which is before the end of September.

Along with the launch of the new Nothing Phone (3) smartphone this week, the company also announced the release of Nothing OS 4.0, its own version of Android 16.
The Phone (3) will presumably get the update first, but it’s reasonable to expect that previous Nothing Phone models will also get the new OS version soon, though no exact timeline has been given yet.
That said, it’s noticeably faster than last time. Nothing didn’t start rolling out Android 15 until the very end of 2025, but it only took a few weeks for the update to reach all of its devices.
