iOS 18.1 with Apple Intelligence features finally launched

Apple has released an iOS 18.1 update with iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1 that adds a suite of new AI-branded Apple Intelligence features.

Main Innovations

• Text tools: Available wherever you can enter text, including rewriting, validation, and summary functions.
  • Rewrite: Offers different versions of text with improved style.
  • Check: Recommends grammar and style improvements.
  • Summary: Allows you to quickly create an abbreviated version of selected text.
• Siri now with an updated design, improved language and context handling, the ability to handle queries via ChatGPT, and support for «typing» for command entry.

• Function «Clean Up» to remove distracting objects in photos.
• Search photos by object description.
• Create video memories based on text description.

Notifications

• Summary notifications and a new focus mode «Reduce Interruptions» to receive only the most important messages.
• Smart replies and prioritized messages in Mail.

• Recording and transcription of calls with recording notification (in Notes).

Camera

• New spatial photo and video mode for iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.
• Fast change to TrueDepth front camera for iPhone 16 models.

AirPods

• Hearing test, Hearing Aid and loud noise protection (compatible with AirPods Pro 2).

Other updates and fixes

• Individual connection settings in Control Center.
• Support for business messages via RCS (if operator support is available).
• Simplified App Store search with natural language support.
• New Game Center features, including invitations for friends from Contacts.
• Bug fixes for Podcasts, Photos and digital car keys.

iOS 18.1 is available for all compatible devices with Apple Intelligence, which only works in English (US) for now.
