Google has added a separate AI mode to search

Google has unveiled a new AI Mode for the branded search engine. It’s an extension of the familiar AI Overviews feature, but with a focus on more complex and contextual queries.
AI Mode launches today for all users in the US. It will appear as a separate tab in the desktop version of Google Search and mobile apps. The new mode lets you formulate long, multi-level queries that regular search can’t answer accurately.
The main difference is that AI Mode breaks down questions by processing them in parallel across databases. The system takes into account personal context – such as query history – and suggests more relevant answers.

Availability of AI Mode
- ask clarifying questions to an already received answer;
- generate images and diagrams;
- search products with filters by color, purpose and price;
- track for price reductions on items of interest;
- use virtual fitting of clothes – with photo and 3D body model;
- shop directly from the search bar using the “Buy for me” function;
Some features, such as trying on clothes, are already available in the experimental Google Labs section. The rest will be available in the coming months.

Later in the summer, AI Mode will start using data from Gmail and other services for more personalized responses.
The mode will also be responsible for AI Overviews, a basic AI feature in the standard search interface. Some of AI Mode’s new features will be built in there as well.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai called AI Overviews “one of the most successful launches in the last decade.” However, he wouldn’t comment on the impact of AI summaries on website traffic, as users are increasingly less likely to click on the original links when detailed summaries are available.
