Activision’s CEO has again pointed to the return of Guitar Hero

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has hinted that a new Guitar Hero game may be in development. According to Windows Central, Kotick held an internal meeting with employees on Tuesday to discuss the state of the company ahead of its imminent acquisition by Microsoft.

In the meeting, Kotick reportedly began discussing how Microsoft’s strength in technology research could lead to improvements in the way Activision creates games with AI.
Then Kotick reportedly added that Activision «is in a unique position as a company because it has the best franchises in all of video games», before naming the company’s previous games that changed the industry early on, such as Pitfall, River Raid and Kaboom.

Hinting that a new installment of the publisher’s successful music series is in development, he added: «The rebirth of Guitar Hero and other games would not be possible without different kinds of resources. And so the endless possibilities of the future are incredibly exciting».

Activision’s Guitar Hero series of games was popular in the late 2000s. In January 2022, Kotick also said that if the Microsoft acquisition is finalized, he would like to see the return of «bygone» series, citing Guitar Hero and Skylanders as examples.
