Aura has launched a color E Ink frame that will replace conventional photos

Digital photo frame company Aura has announced its first color model designed to replace the familiar photo frames. It lets you breathe new life into old photos stored in your phone’s memory.

Aura has announced its first color model to replace the familiar photo frames.

The new product, called Aura Ink, measures 34.3 by 35.5 cm and features a 13.3-inch color screen made with E-Ink Spectra 6 technology with a resolution of 1600×1200 pixels. The display is capable of reproducing black, white, yellow, red, green and blue colors. A backlighting system is provided so that the image does not appear faded. As Allison Johnson of The Verge points out, the backlighting is skillfully done, making the pictures look very natural.

“Creating an E-Ink frame that could work wirelessly and hang on the wall has been a goal of Aura co-founder and CTO Eric Jensen for nearly a decade, but technology hasn’t allowed it,” — reports Allison Johnson, writing in The Verge.

To conserve battery power, the motion sensor reduces the brightness of the backlighting when it’s dark and there are no people around. A full battery charge lasts up to three months of use with daily image changes. Users can set the camera to automatically change photos up to six times a day or manually scroll through them using the buttons on the top edge of the frame.

Management is via a dedicated smartphone app, where you can, for example, leave comments and put “like” marks under photos selected by other users of the frame. There’s a Type-C port for recharging, access to which doesn’t require removing the device from the wall. It comes with a three-meter cable and unlimited cloud storage for photos.
