Russia is building a research hub: cars to be developed in Shushary

A new research center will be created in St. Petersburg, which will become the main platform for the development of technologies in the domestic automotive industry. The facility will be located in the special economic zone “Shushary” near the automobile plant.
Project scope
The 18,000-square-meter building is scheduled to be commissioned in 2027. This will be the first project in St. Petersburg financed by a treasury investment loan. Thanks to it, the city will receive 3.1 billion rubles from the federal budget to develop the infrastructure of the special economic zone.
Alexander Sitov, head of the city’s Committee for Industrial Policy, says that engineering surveys have already started.
Economic effect
The center will be engaged in research and creation of new technologies with their subsequent introduction into production. This will accelerate the production of cars with a high degree of localization and strengthen the position of St. Petersburg’s auto cluster.
The project is expected to provide more than 2,200 jobs and generate more than 14 billion rubles in tax revenues over 15 years.
