IFA 2025: TCL unveils several gadgets for kids

The market for children’s gadgets is becoming increasingly saturated, and parents are finding it harder and harder to navigate. You want to keep your child safe and connected, but you don’t want to hand them a device that’s a source of distraction. TCL is taking a two-pronged approach with its new Junior Series: the first smart watch and the first smartphone designed with parental peace of mind and childcare in mind.

The new TCL Movetime MT48 smartwatch, out in Europe, is highlighted by a high-precision dual-frequency GPS (L1+L5) feature – the same technology that powers the flagship adult watch. It provides more accurate and stable location tracking, especially in urban environments where conventional GPS is often confused.

Besides that, the MT48 offers all the basic features: 4G calls, an SOS button and IP68 water protection. The safety-first approach compares favorably to a new competitor, Google’s Fitbit Ace LTE, which relies on gamification of activity and operates on a subscription model. Fitbit offers an engaging experience, but is more expensive and requires monthly payments. While the Movetime MT48 looks like a more practical and budget-friendly option for parents prioritizing safety. Sales in Europe (France, Germany, UK, Italy, Spain and Italy) start in late October at €150 (about $175).

When a child is ready to move on to their first smartphone, parents’ concerns expand – screen time monitoring and eye protection are already important. To that end, TCL has launched the Nxtpaper 5G Junior smartphone with a 6.67-inch Nxtpaper screen. It’s the company’s proprietary technology that provides a matte “paper” surface, reduced blue light emission and eye protection for extended use.

Inside, the device isn’t “kid-friendly” at all: a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, 8GB of RAM expandable by another 10GB, 256GB of storage and support for microSD cards up to 2TB. The 5200mAh battery will easily last through a school day.

The smartphone also features a 50 MP main camera, 5G support, an NFC module for payments, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack. Combined with parental control features, the device offers both modern functionality and peace of mind for parents. In Europe, the Nxtpaper 5G Junior will be available in October 2025 for €249 (about $290).
