Huawei unveiled TWS FreeBuds 7i headphones with improved noise canceling and spatial sound

Huawei has officially unveiled the new FreeBuds 7i headphones in China, which are priced at 599 yuan (about $84). The new product is available in three colors: pearl white, dark gray, and pink. The FreeBuds 7i are positioned as a mid-range TWS headphone with improved noise cancellation, clearer voice transmission and support for spatial audio.

The main innovation is the Smart Dynamic Noise Cancellation 4.0 system. It uses three microphones and an 8mm² camera to cancel out external noise. Huawei claims an average noise reduction level of up to 28dB, a 50 percent reduction in system latency, and adaptation to changing environments in 0.5 seconds.

To improve call quality, the FreeBuds 7i adds a bone microphone in addition to the main microphone system. AI algorithms can suppress up to 90dB of background noise and reduce wind effects for clearer voice capture, even in noisy environments.

The sound is taken care of by 11mm four-magnet dynamic drivers for clear voice and detailed sound. There’s a 10-band equalizer and presets to customize the audio to your tastes. Head-tracked spatial audio is supported, creating a 360-degree surround sound effect. Processing is done right on the device, allowing compatibility across platforms and services.

The headphones can be controlled by voice via Huawei’s Xiaoyi assistant, as well as with gestures, such as a nod of the head to accept a call and a slight shake to reject it. The touch control lets you adjust volume, switch ANC modes, and control playback.

FreeBuds 7i support Bluetooth 5.4 and the SBC, AAC, LDAC, and L2HC 2.0 codecs, but lack support for LHDC and aptX. For devices on EMUI 10.1 and above, a pairing pop-up window is implemented, and multi-device operation is available on HarmonyOS 3.0.

Autonomy is up to 8 hours of playback without ANC and 5 hours with it. With the charging case, battery life increases to 35 hours without ANC or 20 hours with ANC. Fast charging is supported: just 10 minutes gives you up to 4 hours of listening time.

Each earbud weighs 5.4 grams and the case weighs 36.5 grams. The FreeBuds 7i are IP54 dust and splash resistant.
