iOS 26 is compatible with iPhone 11 and newer

Apple has confirmed that the iOS 26 operating system will support iPhone 11 and newer smartphones. This means that devices in the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR series will remain on the previous version, iOS 18.

  • iPhone SE (2nd generation and newer)

Support will also be provided for all models in the iPhone 17 lineup, which is expected to be released in the fall of 2025.

Beta versions are now available

The first developer beta of iOS 26 is out today, June 9. The public beta will become available in July. The final release of the system is expected in the fall, along with the release of new Apple devices.

What this means for iPhone XS, XR and XS Max users

The 2018 iPhone models – iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR – will not receive an update to iOS 26. For these devices, iOS 18 will be the last officially supported version of the operating system.

And iOS 18 will be the last officially supported version of the operating system.
