Russia has developed professional microphones for percussion instruments

Octava DM, a company specializing in creating high-precision sound equipment, has announced the release of a new line of instrumental microphones focused on recording percussion. The new products, named D-1 and D-2, were fully designed and assembled at the production site in Tula. They are scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2025.
The models are dynamic microphones with a cardioid pattern and an emphasis on extended bass range. They are designed to work with powerful acoustic sources and are capable of accurately reproducing the sound of various drum kit elements. The D-1 is optimized for bass drum, while the D-2 is versatile for snare drum, toms, percussion and other instruments with a rich percussive spectrum.
Includes proprietary mounts that allow you to attach the microphones directly to the body of your instrument, eliminating the need for additional stands for easy mounting and space-saving installation for live performances and studio sessions.

First impressions from the pros
The famous composer and sound producer Mark Bryantsev was one of the first to test the new products in studio conditions. He noted the microphones’ clear and rich attack, resistance to overload, and unusual appearance:
“I tried them on a cajon – and even on it, you can hear the distinctive «punch» perfectly. The sound is dense, the microphones hold pressure without distortion, pleasantly surprised by the original design and convenient way of fixing. Already managed to record a couple of tracks – in one used only wide-membrane microphone, in the other – both models. Bottom line: I liked it,” the musician said.
Universal application
Although the main purpose of the microphones is to work with drums, according to Lyubov Stalnova, general director of Octava DM, the scope of their application is much wider:
“We’ve been in dialog with the professional audio environment for a long time and understand what is expected from sound equipment. The D-1 and D-2 deliver crisp and balanced stereo sound, and not just when recording drums. These models are perfect for guitar and bass amplifiers, double bass, cello, baritone horns and other instruments with a powerful sound output.
So the D-1 and D-2 from Octave DM become a practical solution for studio and concert applications, closing the need for musicians and engineers for reliable microphones with professional sound.
