OnePlus 13 is the first to get Android 16 Beta 2 with flexible charging settings

OnePlus is ahead of everyone – except Google – and has already released the second beta version of Android 16 for its upcoming OnePlus 13 flagship. While the firmware is aimed at developers and app testing, it’s already sporting a number of notable new features, including a redesigned battery management system.

It’s now up to you to decide how much percent to charge your smartphone
One of the most talked about new features in Android 16 Beta 2 is the enhanced charge limiting feature. In the current version of the OxygenOS 15 shell (which is still labeled as such in settings despite the updated Android base), there’s more flexible control over what level the battery is charged to.

While previously you could only enable a fixed limit of 80% (via Settings > Battery > Battery Status), the system now lets you choose from four levels – 80%, 85%, 90% or 95%. The increments are 5%, giving the user the ability to find a balance between battery life and everyday autonomy.
Why it’s important for battery health
Many people know: batteries wear out faster if they are regularly charged to 100% and fully discharged to 0%. In real life, it’s hard not to bring your phone to a critical level, especially outside the home. But controlling the charging limit is much easier, especially if your device is used more often at home or near an outlet.

This is exactly the kind of situation the new setting is designed for. It allows you to limit the charge to the right level – not too low, but without putting too much strain on your battery cells. This is especially useful for those who want to extend the life of their smartphone but find the default 80% too harsh.
Beta version today – stable release coming soon
Although the current build remains preliminary and developer-focused, it gives a clear indication of what features will make it into the final release. A stable version of Android 16 for OnePlus and other manufacturers is expected to be released by the end of June 2025.
