Audi has unveiled a new SUV concept based on the Q6 e-tron

At the World Ski Championships in Kitzbühel, Austria, Audi unveiled the offroad concept Q6 e-tron with innovative technology that could be a game changer in the off-road segment. The main novelty was the new generation of portal axles developed by Audi.

Key features of the concept

1. Powerful electric motors

• The concept is equipped with two electric motors with a total output of 380 kW.
• The vehicle is capable of traversing gradients of up to 100%, which emphasizes its off-road potential.

2. Revolutionary Gantry Bridges

• The new axle design increases torque at the wheels by 50%, unlike traditional axles that only provide a 20-30% increase.
• The concept’s total torque reaches 13,400 Nm, which is 4,400 Nm more than the standard Q6 e-tron.

3. Improved Geometry

• Clearance increased by 160 mm.
• The track is wider by 250 mm, which improves stability and cross-country ability.

4. Limited maximum speed

• Because of the increased torque, the top speed is limited to 175 km/h. However, for off-road use, this is quite sufficient.

Design Features

The portal axles are integrated into the wheel hubs, which required a change in suspension design. This system not only enhances off-road capability, but also improves load distribution and reduces overall vehicle weight.

Future Concept

Audi has stated that this concept will go beyond the exhibition stand. They plan to show off the Q6 e-tron offroad concept’s capabilities as early as February 1 at the F.A.T. Race. Ice Race, where the car will demonstrate its extreme off-road capabilities.
