The Yakuza gang has crossed Nagoshi and other developers out of the credits

Dozens of developers who worked on the Yakuza franchise have been removed from the credits of the games’ recent release. As Reddit user u/Timo653 noted, in the credits of the full Yakuza series on GOG, dozens of developers who worked on the games were removed from the credits of all seven games without warning.

Dozens of developers who worked on the games were removed from the credits of all seven games.

This includes Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creator of the series, who left RGG to found Nagoshi Studio. Also removed were all the developers from Lab42, the team that helped release 0 and Kiwami 1 on PC, as well as QLOC, which worked on Kiwami 2 and Yakuza 6.

A user on Reddit claiming to be a Lab42 employee commented on the post, writing: «Well, that’s not good. We put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into these games, I tell you what!».

At the time of writing, the original titles are still available on Steam. The issue of properly identifying developers in video games is a hot topic, and many companies have been criticized for not providing proper credits to creators.

In the absence of regulation, aside from the International Game Developers Association (IDGA) guidelines, which are non-binding, game developers are effectively at the mercy of employers as to how, where and whether their authorship should be listed. According to the IGDA guidelines, anyone who has worked on the creation of a game for 30 days (or 5%) must be cited.
