Top of the best new movies coming out in the fall of 2024. Part 1

The last days of September saw a mishap at the movie box office. The Beetlejuice movie has overtaken Transformers 1, with the latter potentially losing money laden with a modest budget. That’s because the critically acclaimed DreamWorks Animation movie “Wild Robot” hits theaters this weekend.
Everyone’s waiting for “The Joker: Madness for Two” in October, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to remain the only movie to be released this month. So it’s time to familiarize yourself with some potentially exciting new releases.

Wild Robot
This year’s top movie from DreamWorks Animation is based on Peter Brown’s novel “Wild Robot,” starring Lupita Nyong’o. Nyong’o voices Roz, a robot trapped on a remote island with no sign of civilization. But that doesn’t mean there’s no life there at all. As Roz adapts to life in the wild, she befriends a fox named Fink (voiced by Pedro Pascal) and adopts a goose named Brightbill (Keith Connor).
The rest of the voice actors are Katherine O’Hara, Bill Nighy and Stephanie Hsu. The screenplay was written by director Chris Sanders.

Megalopolis
Francis Ford Coppola wanted to make “Megalopolis” for nearly five decades. When none of the Hollywood studios backed him, Coppola independently raised the $120 million needed to finance “Megalopolis.” But even then, the major studios didn’t agree. Only Lionsgate agreed to release the movie.

The story takes place in an alternate world where a city called New Rome has been nearly destroyed in an accident. Caesar Catilina (Adam Driver), an architect who can control time, wants to rebuild the city as a utopia for all the inhabitants. Mayor Franklin Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito) is against this because Caesar’s ideal city threatens the mayor’s ability to control it. Nathalie Emmanuel plays Franklin’s daughter, Julia Cicero, who has romantic feelings for Caesar. Julia’s connection to both men could turn the fate of their town toward one or the other.

Joker: Madness for Two
If “The Joker” hadn’t grossed $1 billion worldwide, it would be hard to argue the need for a sequel, given that young Bruce Wayne from the first movie was at least 15 years away from becoming Batman. Oh, and Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) isn’t such a formidable Joker compared to previous incarnations played by Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. But that didn’t stop the Academy from awarding Phoenix an Oscar for Best Actor.
He’s not the only one.

Joker: Madness for Two introduces Lady Gaga as Harleen Quinzel, a woman destined to fall in love with the Joker and become his Harley Quinn. Their dive into madness and love together will turn the Joker sequel into a musical. So it’s a very good thing Gaga can sing. There’s a good chance that’s why she was cast in the role.

White Bird: A New Miracle
“White Bird: A New Miracle” — the long-awaited sequel to “Miracle,” which oddly enough works as both a prequel and sequel to the previous film without much connection between the two. Bryce Geysar reprises his role as Julian Albans, the bully from “Miracle” who is paying for his cruelty. To help Julian become a better person, his grandmother. She (Helen Mirren), shares the story of her life during World War II in occupied France.

That’s where the bulk of the movie takes place, as young grandmother Sarah Blum (Ariella Glazer). Sarah’s life is in danger. And the only one who can save her is — Julien Beaumier (Orlando Schwerdt), a teenager with polio who has been mercilessly bullied by his peers. Together, Sarah and Julien may find a love that is stronger than hate.

When is a lego movie not a lego movie? In this case, the answer is — when it’s a Pharrell Williams musical biopic. “Piece by Piece” could probably be made as a regular movie, but turning Williams’ life story into a Lego-style animation could attract a much larger audience. Especially if “The Joker” captures the full attention of an R-rated audience.

Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Basta Rhymes, Jay-Z and Snoop Doggo voiced lego-like figures for this movie, but that’s Williams’ story.

The Terrifying 3
In the movie “Terrifying 3,” Christmas is in October, but more in the spirit of Black Christmas. There’s no Christmas cheer in Miles County this year, because Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) is playing the role of Santa… and you won’t like what he leaves under the tree.
At the end of the movie, you’ll find a lot of Christmas cheer.

Every horror slasher movie has to have a girl in it, and in this case, Lauren LaVera reprises her role as Sienna Shaw from “Horrible 2.” Sienna managed to defeat and destroy Art the Clown the last time he went berserk. Will she be able to pull off a Christmas miracle and do it again? After all, it’s not just her life on the line. Every minute while Art is on the loose could lead to the death of one more person.
Here’s what’s at stake.
