PlayStation Showcase 2023: How to Watch and What to Expect

It’s been a long time since the last PlayStation Showcase. While Sony has held many small State of Play events over the years, it doesn’t often put on Nintendo Direct-sized events that give a broad idea of what’s coming to the PS5. That will change next week when the company holds a full PlayStation Showcase, just a few weeks before Summer Game Fest.
The company will be holding a full PlayStation Showcase next week.
The details of what we’ll see at the event are still scarce, but we can already predict a lot. You won’t want to miss this event, so here’s everything you need to know to catch it in time to see it when it airs.
When is PlayStation Showcase?
PlayStation Showcase will air at 11 p.m. MSC on Wednesday, May 24. The show will last just over an hour, making it one of Sony’s longest live shows in years.
How to watch PlayStation Showcase
As with every Sony stream, you’ll have two ways to watch: YouTube and Twitch. Sony invites content creators to co-broadcast the event, but notes that the show will feature copyrighted music. Still, it’s unlikely to stop anyone from streaming, given the scale of the event.
What to expect from PlayStation Showcase
Sony says the focus will be on games for the PS5 and PlayStation VR2, including new PlayStation Studios games. This detail is important because we currently don’t know what Sony is preparing. We can expect that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be shown, but the rest of the first-person game lineup remains a mystery. We know that a Last of Us multiplayer game is in development, as well as an Insomniac Wolverine game, so there’s a good chance one of those games could show up. Otherwise, expect a few games that have not yet been announced.

The stream will also feature announcements from third-party studios and indie creators, which opens up a lot of options. With Final Fantasy XVI just around the corner, it’s likely that we’ll see another glimpse of the game here. What’s more interesting, we may also get a glimpse of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, which is scheduled for release this winter. The upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake also looks like it will be on display, since it is a major PlayStation exclusive.
What’s really worth keeping an eye on is Mortal Kombat. A new installment in the series has been hotly debated in recent months, and details have already emerged about what it will include. Given that series creator Ed Boone tweeted, «This week should be fun»shortly before the announcement at PlayStation Showcase, there’s every reason to believe it could appear here.

What not to expect
I would normally advise tempering expectations, but anything can happen here. This is the big PlayStation Showcase, which comes at a time when the PS5 and PS VR2 should be getting lots of new games. Sony should fill the presentation with interesting announcements, and there’s a good chance it’s been saving up surprises. So let your imagination run wild a little bit.
