Samsung adds Bixby voice assistant to Bespoke AI home appliances

Samsung has announced that it is expanding the capabilities of its Bespoke AI series of home appliances by adding support for the Bixby voice assistant. Users will now be able to control appliances with natural language voice commands, and the devices will understand the context of those commands. Bixby, already familiar to owners of Samsung smartphones, smartwatches, tablets and TVs, will now be integrated into appliances.
The updated Bixby can not only give simple commands, but also understand complex sentences containing multiple instructions at once. For example, you might say, “Set the air conditioner temperature to 26 degrees and finish the laundry by 5pm.” In response to that command, Bixby will turn on the air conditioner and set the temperature, and schedule the washing machine to finish the cycle by the specified time.
In addition, the voice assistant can answer questions related to energy consumption or other features of devices. You can ask, “How much energy did my washing machine save this month?” and continue: “What about my electric bill?”. Bixby will consistently answer both questions, providing up-to-date information.

One of Bixby’s additional features will be the ability to access information from each device’s manuals. For example, you might ask, “How do I change the filter on my air conditioner?” – and Bixby will offer step-by-step instructions. If you don’t know how to wash your kids’ clothes or sports uniforms, Bixby will tell you which wash mode to choose.
Bixby will also be able to help you find the right one.
For now, Bixby will be available on the following Bespoke AI appliances:
- Bespoke AI Combo
- Bespoke AI Family Hub Refrigerator
- Bespoke AI Steam
- Bespoke AI Wind-Free Gallery Air Conditioner
