Two smartphones in atypical design – Sharp Aquos R9 and Aquos wish4 are presented

The Japanese electronics company has unveiled two smartphones with unusual designs. The design was developed by Miyake Design studio, and it’s immediately striking: the new products stand out from other smartphones on the market thanks to the design of the camera unit and the color scheme.

The Sharp Aquos R9 features a 6.5-inch Pro IGZO OLED display with 1080×2340 pixel resolution, variable refresh rates from 1 to 240Hz and brightness up to 1500 nits. A small cutout houses a 50-megapixel front camera (f/2.2, 23mm, 84°), while the rear panel has two modules with the same resolution. The main camera has optical stabilization, 23mm focal length, f/1.9 aperture, 84° field of view and a Leica Hektor lens. The ultra-wide-angle camera has a 13mm focal length (122°) and an aperture of f/2.2.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 processor coupled with 12GB of RAM is responsible for the performance. The inbuilt storage is 256GB. There’s also a 5,000mAh battery, Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 7, Android 14, and IPX5, IPX8, IP6X, MIL-STD-810G body protection.
The Sharp Aquos wish4 features a 6.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1612×720 pixels. There’s a drop-shaped notch at the top of the screen with an 8-megapixel camera (f/2.0, 78°, 26mm), while the back has a single 50-megapixel module (f/1.8, 79°, 25mm). The processor of the smartphone is a MediaTek Dimensity 700. It works with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of permanent memory. Other specs claimed include IPX5, IPX8, IP6X and MIL-STD-810H protection, Bluetooth 5.3, a 5,000 mAh battery and Android 14.

The prices of the smartphones have not been announced yet. The gadgets will go on sale in mid-July.
