HoloTile omnidirectional flooring introduced

Disney’s YouTube channel has released a video demonstrating its new HoloTile omnidirectional flooring. This innovative solution allows you to move freely in virtual space without fear of colliding with walls or furniture.

Each cell of this unique smart mat has the ability to rotate independently, allowing a person to move in different directions without changing their location. This technology also allows for remote control of objects on its surface.

There’s no definitive word yet on the possible applications of HoloTile. However, Disney engineer Lenny Smoot has expressed his opinion, believing that the technology would be perfect for virtual reality, dance, and theater productions. In the presented video demonstrates exactly the first option of using HoloTile, as well as the possibility of joint play with friends. The mat recognizes two people and allows them to move in different directions.

There’s no word yet on when the commercial version of HoloTile will be available or how much it will cost.
