Tecno has announced a collaboration with University of Leeds (UK) and Dar Al-Hekma University (Saudi Arabia) to enhance Universal Tone technology to accurately represent a wide range of skin tones. This initiative aims to adapt mobile imaging technology for the local characteristics of the Saudi Arabian market, where there is a wide variety of skin tones.

The Role of Universities in Research

The project is led by:

  • Professor Kaida Xiao from the School of Design at the University of Leeds, an expert in color and image science.
  • Professor Ahmed Nasseraldin from Dar Al Hekmah University, who researches in the field of technology.

The team of scientists will focus on building a new database by analyzing a wide range of Saudi Arabian skin tones. This research will help tailor image processing algorithms and ensure that local skin tones are more accurately reproduced.
