Tecno is working with universities to improve its Universal Tone technology

Tecno has announced a collaboration with University of Leeds (UK) and Dar Al-Hekma University (Saudi Arabia) to enhance Universal Tone technology to accurately represent a wide range of skin tones. This initiative aims to adapt mobile imaging technology for the local characteristics of the Saudi Arabian market, where there is a wide variety of skin tones.

Features of Universal Tone Technology

• Artificial Intelligence (AI): Used for image processing, ensuring accurate representation of natural skin tones.
• Regional sensitivity: Saudi Arabia has skin tones ranging from light and olive to dark brown. Improved technology will allow for a more accurate representation of the unique characteristics of the local population.
• Database: The global database of 268 skin tones will be updated with new patches created specifically for Saudi Arabia.

The Role of Universities in Research

The project is led by:

• Professor Kaida Xiao from the School of Design at the University of Leeds, an expert in color and image science.
• Professor Ahmed Nasseraldin from Dar Al Hekmah University, who researches in the field of technology.
