Samsung unveiled innovative ISOCELL ALoP technology for thin cameras in smartphones

Modern smartphones are often equipped with bulky cameras, which reduces their aesthetic appeal and makes them uncomfortable to use. The problem is especially acute for flagship models like the vivo X200 Pro or Oppo Find X8 Pro, where powerful telephoto cameras with zoom lenses cause the modules to protrude significantly.

Samsung offers a solution to this problem with its revolutionary ISOCELL ALoP (All Lenses on Prism) technology, which promises to maintain high photo quality with a slimmer camera design.

How does ALoP technology work?

The key idea behind ALoP is the horizontal placement of the lenses inside the smartphone body. Instead of stacking the lenses vertically between the prism and the sensor, Samsung places them parallel to the body of the device.

Samsung’s ALoP technology is designed to make the lenses parallel to the body of the device.

Main technical features:

  • The 40° prism and 10° sensor reduce the height and length of the camera by 22% compared to traditional solutions.
  • Large effective aperture diameter (EPD) allows the use of a brighter lens without increasing the height of the module.

This innovation enhances low-light photography by offering a aperture of f/2.58 and a 80mm focal length for bright, low-noise photos, even at night.

Design and ergonomics

The ALoP technology not only reduces the size of the camera module, but also improves its appearance:

  • The round lens replaces the traditional rectangular shape common to complex optics.
  • The camera becomes less conspicuous and fits better into the overall design of the smartphone.
  • Stable position: the reduced camera overhang eliminates the problem of «wobbling» of the smartphone on a flat surface.

Perspectives on use

Samsung is rumored to be planning to introduce ALoP technology in the Galaxy S25 Slim series models expected in 2025. This would be an important milestone before the technology could be optimized for the Galaxy S26.
