Qualcomm and MediaTek join forces to standardize 6G

A new stage in the development of mobile networks
After Samsung and Arm confirmed their work on 6G last year, the two largest companies in the mobile processor market, Qualcomm and MediaTek, announced standardization of the technology. Despite the competition, the two companies have a common goal to define key aspects of the next generation of communications.
Qualcomm: 6G and artificial intelligence
At MWC 2025 in Barcelona, Qualcomm made an important announcement:
- The company is developing 6G with Nokia Bell Labs and Rhode & Schwarz.
- The main focus is the use of AI algorithms to dynamically configure the network in real time.
- Qualcomm is confident that 2025 will be a tipping point for 6G standardization.
.

MediaTek: hybrid computing and new technologies
MediaTek also unveiled its achievements at MWC 2025:
- Hybrid Computing (Hybrid Computing), combining cloud technology and radio area network (RAN) into “edge cloud”.
- Testing the LEO-broadband NR-NTN, the next generation of satellite communications.
- Sub-Band Full Duplex (SBFD), a technology that reduces latency and increases efficiency of 5G-Advanced and 6G.
MediaTek’s partners in 6G development include NVIDIA, Intel and G REIGNS, which underscores the scale of the project.
What’s next?
The two companies are actively promoting 6G standards, and the first test implementations could appear as early as 2028. Qualcomm is focusing on artificial intelligence, while MediaTek is focusing on new communication technologies and hybrid computing.
One thing is clear: The battle for 6G has already begun, and its outcome will determine the future of mobile technology.
