PlayStation State of Play, June 2025: what to expect

PlayStation State of Play, June 2025: what to expect

E3 is long gone, but its spirit is still alive and felt every June. The week ahead will be packed with video game presentations, as Summer Game Fest, Xbox Games Showcase, and other streaming events await us in the coming days. Now you can add another must-see presentation to your list: PlayStation State of Play.

On June 4, Sony will give fans important information about what’s in store for the PS5 as part of a major broadcast. That’s great news, because the second half of the year so far remains a mystery for the company, save for two or three big games. What else is in store for PS5 owners this year?”

When will it go

PlayStation State of Play

PlayStation State of Play will take place on June 4, just one day before the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. Preliminary reports say the presentation will last over 40 minutes. That makes it more of a full-blown broadcast than a short show designed to introduce a few key games.

How to watch

If you want to watch the show live, you can watch it on PlayStation’s YouTube channel. And don’t worry if you miss it: video on demand will be available on the service right after it ends.

What to expect from PlayStation State of Play in June 2025

Marvel's Wolverine

Sony isn’t giving a clear indication of what exactly will be shown this time around. In its blog announcing the broadcast, the company says only that PS5 games from developers around the world will be featured. PlayStation VR2 isn’t mentioned, so don’t expect any new VR games. So what is likely to be shown? With Death Stranding 2: On the Beach due out later this month, we wouldn’t be surprised to see another trailer promoting the game. Marathon will likely make an appearance too, given that Sony owns Bungie, though there are rumors that its release may be postponed. And, of course, Ghost of Yotei should get special attention here, given that it’s a big fall exclusive game for the PS5.

Besides that, some other games may be presented and announced. The presentation would come out great if more games from third-party developers — Square Enix and Capcom were shown. There’s a good chance we’ll see something like Resident Evil 9 here, which would be a big shock to us before Summer Game Fest. Sony may have some surprises in store too, as we know that Marvel’s Wolverine is still planning to make an appearance. We’ve been waiting for news on that for a while now, so this could be a huge announcement.
