Nvidia and MediaTek may unveil jointly developed Arm chips at Computex 2025

According to ComputerBase, Nvidia and MediaTek are expected to unveil their jointly developed Arm-based processors for PCs at Computex 2025. The upcoming chips – N1X and N1 – are aimed at desktops and laptops and mark Nvidia’s deeper penetration into the Windows-on-Arm ecosystem. However, retail availability may be delayed until 2026 due to unresolved technical hurdles, Heise reports, citing SemiAccurate.

The CEOs of both companies — Nvidia’s Jensen Huang and MediaTek’s Rick Tsai — are scheduled to make presentations at Computex in Taipei, Taiwan, on May 19 and 20, respectively. One of the likely announcements is a new processor family combining MediaTek’s Arm-based processor with Nvidia’s Blackwell GPU. The joint products will rely on the companies’ technologies to create the GB10 platform for compact workstations with artificial intelligence.

By partnering with MediaTek, Nvidia hopes to tap into markets currently served by AMD’s APUs with high-performance Radeon graphics, as well as Arm-based Snapdragon X processors. Nvidia’s Blackwell discrete GPUs promise to deliver higher performance and better gaming compatibility than AMD’s Radeon and Qualcomm’s Adreno, so there’s no doubt they’ll attract the attention of gamers.

Expectations for the processors

According to early reports, the N1X and N1 processors are expected to feature up to 10 high-performance Cortex-X925 cores and up to 10 Cortex-A725 cores. Less powerful CPU configurations are likely to be introduced to reach markets that are currently underserved by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X processors and AMD’s Ryzen APUs with integrated Radeon GPUs.

To support the production of an unknown high-volume product, MediaTek has secured a large amount of packaging capacity for Flip Chip Ball Grid Array (FCBGA) chips, which implies their use in PCs rather than mobile devices. According to DigiTimes, this capacity reservation occurred around the end of 2024 and was unusually large. However, it remains unclear whether the packaging timeline coincides with the initial production of the processors.

It’s also unclear whether the timing of the packaging coincides with the initial production of the processors.

Despite the enthusiasm surrounding MediaTek and Nvidia’s processors, the actual launch dates remain uncertain. Several sources have reported possible development issues that could significantly delay the commercial rollout of systems based on the new processors. Some predictions suggest delays until 2026, but there’s no confirmation of those rumors yet.
