“Jet Infosystems named the leading industries in terms of data leaks in Russia

Analysts at Jet CSIRT, the information security incident response team of Jet Infosystems, have recorded more than 110 confidential data leaks in Russia for the first half of 2025. The research covered all key sectors of the economy and identified the most vulnerable ones.

Online commerce and small businesses are the main victims of leaks

Online commerce and marketplaces accounted for the largest number of incidents – 44% of all identified cases. Small businesses and local digital services ranked second with a 22% share.

• public sector – 5.5%;
• IT and IS companies – 3.6%;
• insurance and medicine – 3.6%;
• telecom – 3 %;
• construction – 2%;
• automotive industry and logistics – 2%;
• media and mass media – 1.8%;

Experts emphasize that more than half of all incidents are related to digital and low-budget services, where the level of information protection is traditionally low.

The causes of the incidents are outdated systems and phishing

• Use of outdated or insecure software;
• open databases;
• phishing attacks and account compromise;
• weak controls over contractors and external services;

According to analysts, the problem is systemic. Leaks occur on an ongoing basis, covering more and more industries, and protection measures often remain at a basic level.

Cyber resilience becomes a priority

“Saving on information security leads to a shortage of specialists and lack of minimum necessary protective measures,” says Anastasia Filippova, analyst at Jet CSIRT. She emphasizes that building a cyber-resistant system is no longer an option, but a condition for business survival.

She says modern attacks are becoming more sophisticated, and it’s becoming important for companies not only to protect themselves from penetration, but also to be able to quickly recover from an incident with minimal damage.
