Huawei has announced the launch date for the Pura 80 smartphone lineup

Huawei has officially announced that the Pura 80 series and smart device lineup will be unveiled on June 11 at 2:30 p.m. local time in China. The slogan of the event is “See beyond with foresight”, emphasizing the advanced technology of mobile photography.

The event teaser shows two expressive lenses, reinforcing rumors of a dual periscopic zoom system. The eliptical shape of the modules points to the possible introduction of two telephoto lenses at once, likely in the Ultra model – a decision previously leaked in leaks.

This isn’t Huawei’s first experience with dual telephoto lenses: the P40 Pro+ already used a similar concept. However, the return to a next-level dual periscopic system may confirm the company’s commitment to setting a new standard not only in zoom photography, but also in overall optical performance.

According to insiders, the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra will debut with a custom 1-inch SC5A0CS CMOS sensor from SmartSens that utilizes LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) technology. This sensor will also utilize SmartSens’ proprietary RYYB pixel array, which increases light sensitivity in low-light conditions. All of this signals Huawei’s serious bid for leadership in mobile photography.

In addition, the Ultra version will get a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with a 1/1.3″ sensor, making it one of the largest on the market – even larger than Samsung’s HP9. Combined with the main sensor, this could make the Pura 80 Ultra a powerful flagship in both wide-angle and zoom shooting.

Although it’s the Ultra that will set the tone, all models in the lineup – the Pura 80, Pura 80 Pro, and Pura 80 Pro+ – will also get significant improvements. The entire range is rumored to be using a new version of Maple’s proprietary Maple Original Colour Imaging 2.0 technology, aimed at improving color accuracy and image calibration.

While the Ultra will set the tone, the Pura 80, Pura 80 Pro and Pura 80 Pro+ will also receive improvements.

This time around, Huawei is likely to ditch the retractable cameras in favor of a compact four-sensor module. The layout will vary from triangular to concentric depending on the model.

All Pura 80 series smartphones will come pre-installed with HarmonyOS 5, making them the first “flat” flagships to run the new OS. HarmonyOS 5 has already received several updates since its announcement in March, improving security, smoothness and integration with other devices in the Huawei ecosystem. Combined with the new Kirin 9020 chip, the lineup promises to deliver an outstanding user experience.
