Foldable smartphone sales in Russia grow tenfold in five years

In 2025, Russians bought 104,000 foldable smartphones — ten times more than the 11,000 units sold in 2020. The year-over-year increase was 30% compared to 2024, with revenue reaching 10.7 billion rubles, up 25%.

  • In 2020, 11,000 foldable smartphones were sold, generating 1.7 billion rubles
  • By 2025, the market expanded to 104,000 devices with 10.7 billion rubles in revenue
  • Annual growth in 2025 was 30% in units sold and 25% in revenue

How the market evolved since 2020

The foldable smartphone segment has transformed over five years from an experimental niche into a fully fledged category. According to ICMR data (“GfK-Rus,” cited by M.Video’s press office), sales in 2020 totaled 11,000 devices with 1.7 billion rubles in revenue. By 2021, the market surged sharply to 59,000 smartphones generating 7.0 billion rubles.

There was a brief correction in 2022, but growth resumed afterward. In 2023, 80,000 devices sold brought 8.9 billion rubles in revenue. In 2024, the volume remained at 80,000 units, while revenue slightly dipped to 8.7 billion rubles.

Which models hit the market

The growth seen in 2025 is linked to a broader lineup. New models launched in Russia include Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, and Flip7 FE. Huawei introduced the Mate XT Ultimate, Mate X6, and Pura X, while Honor expanded its range with the Magic V5.

In the budget segment, Tecno debuted the Phantom V Fold2 5G and Phantom V Flip2 5G. Buyers now have options ranging from compact clamshell designs to full-sized foldables with large displays.
