Half-Life 3: rumors of full playability and possible announcement this year

Half-Life 3 is reportedly fully playable and could be announced later this year. Valve’s Half-Life 3 is currently rumored to be “playable from start to finish” and could even be announced in the summer and then released this winter. This speculation comes from Tyler McVicker, who is known for reporting on Valve rumors, during his latest live Q&A broadcast. According to McVicker, the game is indeed ready from start to finish, which he suggests could put it on track for an announcement and release this year.

Besides McVicker’s hours-long live stream, there have been other recent hints of Valve’s progress. In March, Valve concept artist Eugene Eustratius said he was in the room where Valve was working on Half-Life 3 during the CG Voices podcast. In the same month, another Valve insider, Gabe Follower, stated that Half-Life 3 would be “the end of Gordon’s adventures,” potentially signaling a non-cliffhanger ending to one of the best gaming franchises. Internet sleuths have also discovered code referencing HLX (which is widely considered Half-Life 3’s codename) in major updates to Deadlock and Dota 2.

Half-Life 3’s codename is widely believed to be the same as Half-Life 3’s codename.

Although these rumors are unconfirmed, they are promising signs of Half-Life 3’s life. McVicker said during his broadcast that Project HLX won’t be another virtual reality game like Half-Life: Alyx, and that it has procedural generation features that aren’t designed for landscape or roguelike mechanics.
