BYD unveils new supercharging technology for electric cars

The BYD company has announced a new technology for charging electric vehicles at astonishingly high speeds. Company founder Wang Chuanfu said that the new «super e-platform» can achieve a peak charge of 1,000 kilowatts, which is twice as fast as the current 500 kW offered by Tesla supercharging stations. This means that at a BYD charging station, you can get enough charge to travel 400 kilometers (249 miles)in five minutes.

Innovations to reduce charging time

«To fully address our users’ charging anxiety, we are committed to making electric vehicle charging times as fast as gasoline vehicles»” Wang said. The announcement underscores the company’s commitment to creating technologies that will allow electric vehicle charging to rival traditional fueling stations in terms of time.

This new charging technology will first be available on BYD’s Han L (sedan) and Tang L (crossover) models. The company also intends to introduce its ultra-fast charging system in China by building 4,000 ultra-fast charging stations across the country. However, the exact timeline and budget for this project has not yet been disclosed.

B BYD’s growing presence in the global market

BYD continues to ramp up electric vehicle production globally. Last year, for example, deliveries in the second quarter increased by 21%, bringing the company close to Tesla’s numbers.
