Apple updates online Mac configurator, hinting at imminent MacBook Pro M5 launch

Apple has revamped its online Mac configurator on the official website, shifting from preset builds to a step-by-step customization process. Now, users can independently pick options like chassis color, display type, processor, RAM, storage capacity, and even the power adapter. For the first time, the updated configurator also allows customers to add professional apps like Final Cut Pro or Logic Pro to their order directly-previously, these had to be purchased separately after delivery.
Industry analysts see this overhaul as an indirect sign that new MacBook Pro models powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are on the horizon. According to MacWorld, Apple is expected to offer much greater flexibility in processor configurations, including the ability to mix and match CPU and GPU core counts. This explains why the website now supports a more granular build process. Bloomberg’s insider Mark Gurman recently noted that the refreshed MacBook Pros could be unveiled around February or March 2026, coinciding with the release of macOS 26.3.
The online configurator is already live for MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro models. Besides hardware choices, customers can select keyboard localizations, purchase extended AppleCare+ coverage, and add accessories. This update will help Apple better manage inventory by reducing the number of fixed configurations and deliver more precise options tailored to the professional users who demand extensive hardware customization. The official debut of the M5-equipped MacBook Pro lineup is expected within the coming weeks.
