Apple will make it easier to transfer eSIMs from iPhone to Android

Smartphone switching has gotten a lot easier in recent years, but one of the remaining problems has been transferring eSIM profiles – especially when switching from iPhone to Android. Apple, however, is preparing a solution that will remove that hurdle.
According to Android Authority, Apple is working on a new feature for iPhone users that will make it easy to transfer eSIM profiles to Android devices. A line has been discovered in the iOS 19 code that points to a feature called “Transfer to Android,” which will be available through settings.

It appears that the iPhone will generate a QR code that an Android smartphone can scan to add an eSIM, similar to the current profile activation procedure. The code also states that porting will only be possible from devices running iOS 19 and newer.
All current iPhone models sold in the US don’t have a physical SIM card slot – only an eSIM. Currently, to transfer a profile, users have to contact their carrier to get a personalized QR code. This is not only inconvenient, but also time-consuming for customers and carriers alike.

Apple is expected to officially unveil the feature at its WWDC conference, which runs from June 9 to 13. Details are likely to be announced on stage in a couple weeks.
