The Formula 1 TV Premium service will remain available in the US, but will only be available to Apple TV subscribers.
A deal between Apple and Formula 1 began being talked about back in July, when rumors surfaced that the company was planning to add motorsports to its sports lineup. According to insiders, Apple offered between $120 million and $150 million a year for exclusive rights, which was markedly higher than ESPN, which paid about $90 million annually.
Apple’s interest in Formula One is believed to be linked not only to the sport, but also to the success of the «F1 the Movie» movie released under the company’s brand. The film has received favorable reviews as a spectacular racing blockbuster while also serving as a major advertisement for Apple itself.
