Samsung Galaxy S26 will keep the cameras from the Galaxy S25 due to price competition with the iPhone 17
Samsung has taken the same approach to cameras in the base version of the Galaxy S series for several years. The Galaxy S25, unveiled in January, got the same triple camera as the Galaxy S24, and that one got identical hardware to the Galaxy S23. A new report from South Korean publication The Elec claims that the upcoming Galaxy S26 will again use the same camera modules as the Galaxy S25.

This means keeping the same configuration: a 50MP (1/1.56″) main sensor, a 10MP (1/3.94″) telephoto lens with 3× optical zoom, and a 12MP (1/2.55″) ultra-wide module. However, Samsung had originally planned to upgrade the Galaxy S26’s cameras along with an increase in the starting price, but plans changed due to the release of the iPhone 17.

According to a source, Apple has decided to equip the base iPhone 17 with a 120Hz ProMotion LTPO OLED 120Hz display and 256GB of storage as standard, while keeping the $799 price. This had an impact on Samsung’s strategy. The company allegedly dropped the Galaxy S26’s camera upgrade at the last minute to also keep the starting price at $799.
The changes are delaying production of the base model of the Galaxy S26 because Samsung needs to rework the device’s internal architecture. By comparison, the Galaxy S26 Ultra should move to mass production as early as this month, while the Galaxy S26 and S26+ will begin production in early 2026.
