Samsung’s Android 15 update is delayed until 2025

The rollout of Android 15 has been much slower than usual this year. It’s October already, but the update hasn’t yet reached any Google Pixel devices, not even the new Pixel 9. It’s the same situation with Samsung Galaxy phones, which haven’t even gotten a beta yet.

One UI 7, which was supposed to bring Android 15 to the Galaxy lineup, still doesn’t have an official release date, and Samsung says nothing will change anytime soon. At its annual developer conference, the company said that One UI 7 won’t officially arrive until after the release of the Galaxy S25 next year. However, Samsung said at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) that a beta version of the One UI 7 based on Android 15 will be available to developers by the end of this year (according to 9to5Google). However, there is still no exact release date for the beta version.

The full release of Android 15 for Galaxy won’t happen until the launch of the Galaxy S25 early next year, which is worrying and makes one wonder if there are any issues with Android 15 that have caused such delays. In comparison, One UI 6 with Android 14 starting to be released in the US as early as November 2023.

Earlier this month, a moderator on Samsung’s Korean community forum shared some details related to the delayed release of One UI 7. According to him, «many discussions are still going on because of the new features, which was the reason for the delay». It seems that Samsung wants to improve the stability of the updated interface before launching the public beta. At SDC it was also noted that «Samsung unveiled a preview of One UI 7 at SDC24, showing off a new UX focused on simple, expressive and emotional design, as well as new ways to integrate AI features Galaxy into everyday tasks».

Some Android devices are already getting Android 15
While Samsung is having trouble releasing at least a beta version of Android 15 for Galaxy devices, China’s Vivo has already started releasing a stable version of Funtouch OS 15, based on Android 15, for its flagship devices. While Funtouch OS isn’t the best custom shell on the market, the latest update includes some interesting AI features along with the standard features of Android 15.
