Huawei has unveiled the Pura 80 series of smartphones

Huawei has officially announced the Pura 80 series of smartphones, which includes four models. This review looks at three of them: Pura 80, Pura 80 Pro, and Pura 80 Pro+. The Ultra model will be reviewed separately.

The Pura 80 is the most compact in the lineup. It features a flat 6.6-inch display with a resolution of 1256×2760 pixels. New battery technology has equipped the device with a 5600 mAh battery. It supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

The Pura 80 Pro and Pro+ get larger 6.8-inch displays with four-sided curved glass. Despite this, the screens themselves appear visually flat. All models in the series feature LTPO OLED displays with 1-120Hz refresh rates, 10-bit color reproduction, and second-generation Kunlun Glass.

Pro versions have 5,700 mAh batteries and support 100W fast wired charging and 80W wireless charging. The Pura 80 model uses USB 2.0, while the Pro and Pro+ use USB 3.1 Gen 1.

The processors in the lineup aren’t officially disclosed, but Huawei claims the Ark Engine in the Pro and Pro+ makes the devices 36% faster than the previous generation. The Pura 80 and Pro models have 12GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB or 1TB. The Pro+ offers 16GB of RAM and 512GB and 1TB storage options only.

The Pura 80’s main camera is 50 MP with variable aperture f/1.4-f/4.0 and optical stabilization (exact sensor size not specified). There’s also a 12 MP periscope with 5.5x zoom, 125mm focal length equivalent and f/3.4 aperture. Complementing the configuration are a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera (13mm) and a 1.5 MP spectral sensor. The front camera is the same for the entire series – 13 MP, wide-angle lens with autofocus.

Pura 80 Pro and Pro+ get main cameras with 1-inch 50 MP sensors, variable aperture f/1.6-f/4.0 and optical stabilization. The telephoto module has been updated: it’s now a 48 MP sensor with 4x zoom, 93mm equivalent, f/2.1 aperture and macro support. The ultra-wide-angle module has been increased to 40 MP. Spectral sensor is also present.

Satellite connectivity capabilities have been improved. Pura 80 and Pro models support Beidou: now you can not only send and receive messages, but also send photos. You can also send breaking news and alerts. The Pro+ supports two satellite standards – Beidou and Tiantong – and connects automatically without having to point your phone at a satellite.

Other features include support for Wi-Fi 7 (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.2 with LDAC and L2HC codecs, NFC and NearLink (an alternative to Bluetooth promoted by Huawei). All models are IP68 protected against water immersion (up to 2 meters) and IP69 protected against hot water jets.

Huawei Pura 80 Pro and Pro+ are already available in China. The Pura 80 model will arrive a little later.
