Huawei unveiled the Pura 80 Ultra flagship with a top camera

The Huawei Pura series of smartphones has traditionally been the company’s platform for introducing new camera technology, and the Pura 80 Ultra showcases its most advanced camera module to date. The main feature is a telephoto camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor embedded in a unique dual-lens mechanism.

Huawei engineers have managed to implement a sliding module system that provides optical zoom at 3.7x and 9.4x levels with support for sensor shift-based image stabilization (OIS). Depending on the lens choice, you can shoot with an equivalent focal length of 83mm at f/2.4 or 212mm at f/3.6.

The lens can be used to shoot with an equivalent focal length of 83mm at f/2.4 or 212mm at f/3.6.

The main camera is 50 MP, with a 1-inch RYYB format sensor, variable aperture f/1.6 – f/4.0 and optical stabilization. Huawei claims that compared to last year’s Pura 70 Ultra, the new unit offers 15 times wider dynamic range.

The Pura 80 Ultra boasts a record-breaking 16EV dynamic range, which should ensure that both light and dark areas of the frame are accurately captured in stills and videos.

The device additionally features a 40 MP ultra-wide-angle camera (13mm) and a 1.5 MP multispectral sensor for accurate color reproduction. Huawei has introduced new shooting presets – Nature, Film, Movie and Cartoon, as well as new video capture technology with real-time detail preservation in over-lit areas.

Away from photo features, the Pura 80 Ultra offers a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display with a four-way curve, FHD+ resolution, and adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz. The protective coating is second-generation Kunlun glass. Maximum local brightness reaches 3000 nits.

There is no information about the chipset – it will probably appear after the first unboxings. What is known is that the smartphone packs 16GB of RAM and 512GB or 1TB storage.

The smartphone runs on HarmonyOS 5.1. A 5,700mAh battery with support for fast charging: 100W via cable and 80W wirelessly is responsible for battery life. The case is IP68 and IP69 (water immersion and hot water jet) protected.

Huawei Pura 80 Ultra will be available in black and gold colors. The version with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage is priced at 9,999 yuan ($1391), while the 1TB variant is priced at 10,999 yuan ($1530). Pre-orders are already open in China, with shipments set to begin on June 26.
