YouTube Dream Screen now lets you generate videos using Veo 2’s AI

YouTube continues to introduce artificial intelligence to empower content creators. After launching a tool for automatic dubbing of videos and a Dream Screen feature for creating backgrounds, the platform announced a new update. Users can now generate full-fledged video clips for YouTube Shorts.

What’s new in Dream Screen?

The updated version of YouTube Dream Screen utilizes the new Veo 2 video generation model from Google DeepMind. It allows:
- Create high quality videos in different styles
- Improve physics of objects and realistic movement of people
- Add styles, lenses and cinematic effects to create the desired mood
The feature gives creators more flexibility: you can either generate backgrounds for Shorts or create individual video segments.

How does the new feature work?
- To create a videophone:
- Open Camera Shorts
- Select Green Screen → Dream Screen
- Enter a text query and select an image
- To generate a clip:
- Click Add → Create in the Shorts camera
- Enter a text query
- Select image and set duration
Where is Dream Screen available?
YouTube has added SynthID watermarks and explicit labeling on all AI-generated videos. For now, the function is available in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, but will soon be available in other regions as well.
