Yandex Maps now has a “Weather” button with forecast and precipitation map

A new button has appeared on the main screen of the application Yandex Maps «Weather», which allows you to quickly find out the forecast for the day and view an interactive precipitation map. Now users can plan their routes in advance and assess whether rain or snow is expected at their destination by the time they arrive.

The weather forecast in «Yandex Maps» is generated using technology Meteum from the «Yandex Weather» service. It combines data from various sources:

• global meteomodels,
• satellite observations,
• radiosondes,
• meteostations,
• local sensors,
• user-generated weather notes.

This makes the forecast more accurate and takes into account localized changes, such as short rains in some parts of the city.

• hourly forecast for the next 24 hours
• precipitation map for the next two hours, showing exactly where and when it will rain or snow.

This will allow you to plan your trips and take weather conditions into account in advance, for example, to check if the road home will be hit by a downpour.

In «Yandex» said that in the future, weather data will be used when building routes inMaps and Navigator. If it starts to rain or snow during a trip, the service will adjust the arrival time forecast and display the weather conditions right on the route.
