SiFive announces 4th generation Essential RISC-V chips

SiFive, a leading developer in RISC-V computing, has introduced the fourth generation of its SiFive Essential product line. The new products, announced at the RISC-V Europe 2024 Summit, are available for order now.
SiFive’s Essential product line is now available.
Developed over a decade, Essential’s field-proven IP cores are already used in billions of devices, including cell phones, sensors, SSDs, FPGA platforms, surveillance cameras, smart watches and more. The RISC-V chip family and SiFive are steadily catching up with the market leader — Arm. The updated product line offers higher performance, improved power efficiency and more flexible interfaces, with customization and integration options covering virtually any use case. SiFive Essential Gen4 products are based on the open RISC-V architecture for chip design.

«The best RISC-V-based embedded solutions just got even better with this fourth generation,» said John Ronco, senior vice president of products at SiFive. «With the benefits of flexibility, performance and low power consumption, RISC-V has won the battle for embedded systems. While legacy ISAs have reduced R&D and support, we are expanding our broad portfolio of market-leading Essential products and reaffirming our commitment and support to customers in these critical areas of innovation.»

SiFive is demonstrating strong growth in the embedded segments, where Essential Gen4 products provide impressive flexibility and features, enabling customers to better customize their designs. To date, more than two billion RISC-V-based chips for embedded devices have been shipped, and the market continues to grow rapidly.
SiFive’s market is growing rapidly.
«Embedded systems in 2024 represent a huge market opportunity worth $257 billion, growing at a CAGR of 8.3% through 2030. RISC-V and SiFive are gaining momentum and taking market share away from other ISAs. SiFive is releasing products that these customers need while innovating high performance and advanced AI solutions,» said Rich Warziniak, principal analyst at The SHD Group. «Underestimating the importance of embedded products — is a mistake, as the flexibility and portability of RISC-V software makes designing products with multiple cores, including the highest-performing ones, easier, creating a clear path for RISC-V in the next generation of high-performance chips.»
The SHD Group’s chief analyst said.
