Exynos 2500 performance revealed: the chip is inferior to competitors

Exynos 2500, Samsung’s first 3nm processor for smartphones, has lit up the Geekbench database on the eve of its debut with the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The leak shed light on the specs of the new chip, which is expected to be used in all versions of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 worldwide.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 powered by Exynos 2500: performance below expectations

According to Geekbench, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 model number SM-F766U, destined for the US, is powered by an Exynos 2500 processor (code S5E9955) and 12GB of RAM. The smartphone runs Android 16 with the One UI 8.0.

In Geekbench 6 tests, the Exynos 2500 scored 2,012 in the single-core test and 7,563 in the multi-core test. Those scores are noticeably lower than the current flagship processors from Apple, MediaTek, and Qualcomm. Even Xiaomi’s first flagship chip performs better.

TheExynos 2500 is only slightly ahead of last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which was used in the Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6. A possible reason for such modest performance could be the underestimated clock speed, which is probably due to heat management in the compact body of the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Nevertheless, this result for Samsung’s first 3nm chip looks disappointing.

Exynos 2500 specifications

  • 1 Cortex-X925 core at 3.3GHz
  • 2 Cortex-A725 cores at 2.75 GHz
  • 5 Cortex-A725 cores at 2.36 GHz
  • 2 Cortex-A520 cores at 1.8 GHz

The graphics subsystem is represented by the Xclipse 950 GPU, presumably based on AMD’s RDNA 3.5 architecture.

The Cortex-X925 main core runs at 3.3GHz, which is significantly lower than competitors with frequencies of 4GHz or higher.

Exynos 2500 for all regions

It was previously reported that Samsung was planning to use the Exynos 2500 in versions of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 sold in India and South Korea. Now, according to the leak, this processor will also be in US models, which means it will be used in the Galaxy Z Flip 7 globally.
