AMD has confirmed the launch date for its next Radeon GPU

The week of Computex 2025 is upon us, and Nvidia and AMD will once again be in the spotlight with announcements, new device demos, and technology. Team Red looks poised to eclipse its competitor in the budget GPU market.

AMD confirmed in a post on X (Twitter) that it will unveil its gaming and artificial intelligence plans at the May 21 show. Like the RX 9070 XT, Team Red is also confirmed to have no reference cards – the new GPU will only be available through board manufacturing partners.

There are two variants of the RX 9060 XT planned: one with 8GB and one with 16GB of video memory. The first version is rumored to have lower availability at launch, which is expected in June. Many gamers feel that 8GB graphics cards are no longer enough for today’s demanding games at high resolutions.

Recent news and rumors

According to TechRadar, the RX 9060 XT could be released as early as next month to compete with Nvidia’s RTX 5060.Nvidia will confirm the RTX 5060 8GB launch date as May 19, which coincides with AMD’s launch date.Nvidia’s RTX 5060 won’t have a larger video memory option (at least not yet), while AMD does. This gives Team Red an advantage over the competition. The RTX 5060 is scheduled to launch on May 19, while AMD will announce its new product two days later on May 21. Price will be a key factor for both companies: consumers expect affordable prices, but current market trends show the opposite.

Inflation could be another hurdle for AMD’s new Radeon GPU. Long before U.S. duties were imposed, third-party cards were selling at prices above launch prices at retailers, a trend that will continue with the new GPU.

Since there will be no reference cards, buyers will once again be forced to turn to partner models. In the past, the Radeon RX 9070 XT has been sold at a starting price of $599, but prices soon went up – hurting the product’s appeal.
