Russia proposes to fine for cheating in games at official tournaments
Fines of up to 30,000 rubles for the use of banned software at tournaments have been supported by the Ministry of Sport and State Duma deputies.
The first legislative measures against cheating in cybersport are being prepared in Russia. The Ministry of Sport and State Duma deputies supported the initiative to introduce administrative responsibility for the use of banned programs at official competitions. The proposed fines may reach 30 thousand rubles. They are also considering the prospect of criminal liability in situations where interference affects the outcome of a match or bet.
Why punishment for cheats is being discussed
According to experts, up to 80 percent of players have encountered cheaters, from automated sights to programs that change game parameters and reaction speed. Such tools undermine confidence in tournaments, demotivate honest participants and reduce the interest of sponsors. Therefore, it is proposed to introduce fines of up to 30,000 rubles and to use technical controls that will allow to record violations at official competitions.
Senator Artyom Sheikin noted that cybersport has long gone beyond entertainment. According to him, competitions with large prize money require transparency, and the fight against cheating should be comparable to anti-doping measures in traditional sports.
Possible stricter accountability
It has been suggested that cases of manipulation of match results, when players’ actions are related to fraud or affect bets, should be considered separately. In such situations, the possibility of criminal liability is discussed, which should be a serious deterrent.
In the background of the initiative, it was reported earlier that the public council at the Ministry of Education revealed details of the introduction of cybersport lessons in schools.
