Google Maps has a new power-saving mode on the Pixel 10
The Pixel 10 has begun rolling out Google Maps’ power-saving mode more widely, which works through the Always-On Display to reduce battery consumption while you’re navigating.
Google is expanding the availability of the new Google Maps power-saving mode to Pixel 10 users. The feature was introduced in November’s Feature Drop and utilizes AOD Min Mode, allowing you to display navigation directly on the Always-On Display while using noticeably less power. Now, according to Android Authority, more and more Pixel 10 owners are getting the mode.
How the new power-saving mode works
Power Saving Mode runs Google Maps in a simplified form on the Always-On Display. The navigation interface becomes black and white, screen brightness and refresh rate are reduced, and map updates are less frequent.Only key route guidance is displayed, which helps reduce battery usage on long trips.
You can check for the feature in Google Maps via Settings > Navigation, where the Power saving mode toggle is available under Driving options. If the mode is activated for your account, a card will appear when you start navigation.
Along with this, Google Maps is getting Gemini integration, which should make it easier to use voice commands.
When charge-saving estimation will appear
Google doesn’t provide precise data on charge savings, so a wider launch will give insight into the real effect. The feature is only available in driving mode and doesn’t support walking or biking navigation yet.
The new mode works exclusively on Pixel 10 models right now. The company admits that it could come to the Pixel 9 and then other flagship Android devices at a later date.
